Where To Drink Friday Night? (Bathtub Gin NYC)

Yes, it’s another hidden Prohibition-style speakeasy, this one showcasing a copper bathtub at its center. The cocktail lounge is stowed in a hidden room behind an unassuming coffee shop (Stone Street Coffee Company) on 9th Avenue.  An unmarked door leads into a smallish bar with gaudy damask wallpaper, pressed tin ceilings and silk couches intended to invoke the feeling of a Lost Generation social club.

The drinks list was created by fresh talent on New York’s cocktail circuit—Sean Muldoon of Belfast, Ireland’s Merchant Hotel bar.

What to drink?

The Maiden’s Prayer (gin, Cointreau, orange and lemon juices, egg white) and the Melancholy Punch (rum, falernum, pineapple and lime juices, ginger, black cardamom, sparkling water).

Bathtub Gin, Ninth Avenue (near West 18th Street), (646) 559-1671; bathtubginnyc.com. Open Sunday to Tuesday 6 p.m. to 2 a.m., Wednesday to Saturday 6 p.m. to 4 a.m.
