Product Review: Caliche Rum

Caliche Rum created by hospitality/nightlife impresario Rande Gerber and Roberto Serrallés (from the Serrallés Family Distillery) was recently introduce into the U.S. market, as a super-premium white rum.  The Serralles manufacturing process is characterized by a multiple-distillation system and carbon-active filtration, which produces a clean, pure rum. The artisanal aging in American white oak casks and careful blending are exclusive recipes of the Serrallés family that have been perfected through six generations. Caliche Rum contains, as part of its blend, a portion of Solera, giving it a depth and intricacy not found in ordinary oak-aged rums.

Notes: caramel and vanilla with light tannins and oak accents.

Texture: Smooth and velvety

The name “Caliche” comes from a type of limestone that’s present around the distillery in Ponce, Puerto Rico.

Have no doubt that behind the glitz and glamour of the party  held at the Sofitel Hotel attended by such celebs as Leonardo DiCaprio, Wayne Gretzky, Gerard Butler, Paz de la Huerta, David Spade,  Caliche rum is rooted in a great rum tradition that goes back 145 years by the Serrallés Family Distillery.

Some of the cocktails featured at this product launch party were:

Cali Kick: Caliche rum, Thai chili, fresh lemon juice, cream

Cali Daiquiri: Caliche rum, fresh limes, fresh strawberries, simple syrup

Cali Grapefruit: Caliche rum, Campari, grapefruit juice, soda water, simple syrup

Caliche Rum will be available in New York, Los Angeles, Miami, Chicago and Dallas for $24.99.
