The world of serious cocktail making becomes more collaborative and less competitive in NYC and a good example is Dram, a bar located in Williamsburg, Brooklyn that recently got voted by Time Out NY as best new bar in the city (Reader’s Choice). Since the inception of Dram it has become a rolodex of the who’s who in the cocktail scene, constantly rotating guest bartenders. On their website (www.drambar.com) you can check out who’s tending the bar every day of the week. It has become an All Star rotation of bartenders including Jessica Gonzales from Death & Company; Tonia Guffey from Flatiron Lounge; Frank Cisneros from Prime Meats, Jason Littrell from Death & Company, Nick Jarrett from the Clover Club and Phil Ward owner of Mayahuel.

Guest bartending has allowed for a faster exchange of knowledge and skills between bartenders, where for one shift a new creative force joins the bar displaying his unique set of skills.

Dram is not the only bar doing this, there is a growing trend in NYC of guest bartending that extends to others such as 1534, Compose and Fatty Johnson’s, a pop-up restaurant that recently operated for a few months in Greenwich Village, showcased one prominent mixologist after another.
