Sunday The Tequila Ocho sangrita competition took place at Clarke’s (Miami Beach) where 5 sangritas were competing to move to the national finals where the winner will be crowned sending him or her to the Tequila Ocho distillery. The sangrita (don’t confuse it with sangria, means “little blood”) is a traditional Mexican aperitif that is served with a shot of tequila. Usually its prepared blending tomato juice, fresh lime juice, onions, salt and hot chili peppers. In Sundays competition we saw a diverse use of technics and ingredients ranging from aphrodisiacs such as Damiana to Sudachi juice. I was glad to see that this competition had serious weight after all it was being judge by Willy Shine (Contemporary Cocktails), Scott Baird and Alex Straus both from The Bon Vivants.
